Secure Patient Desktop (SPD) is a custom URL protocol handler that is started when a URL is started with http-hci or https-hci configured protocols. Once the handler is started, it will create a new desktop and start a configured web application on a secure desktop that is referred to as the Secure Patient Desktop. This desktop isolates the configured application allowing a non-clinical user to use the workstation without exposing other applications running on the clinical desktop.A typical use is running an application like Epic’s MyChart application for patients to interact with MyChart.
